Weather Balloon
Below you will learn the steps on how to make a Weather balloon.
Materials
Newspaper, white paper, glue, Vaseline, balloon, water, paintbrush, container, cloth, paint and paint tray
METHOD:
- Put a cloth onto the surface your working on
- Mix up a batch of white glue and water together
- Blow up a balloon and tie at the top
- Start ripping small pieces of newspaper
- Dip the small piece of newspaper into the glue and layer by layer cover the balloon
- Leave it to dry overnight
- Once you have completed 5 layers of newspaper start ripping small pieces of white paper
- Dip the white paper into the glue and cover the balloon with it 1-2 times
- Leave it to dry overnight again
- Cover the balloon with a layer of white paper.
- Leave the balloon to dry
- Then choose a color of your choice and cover the balloon with it
- Leave it to dry
- Add a second layer of the same colour to your balloon
- Leave it to dry
- Start painting your details on. One colour at a time.
- Leave it to dry
- Decorate it with your choice!
- Once you’ve done that you can pop the balloon
- Finally you can hang it up.
I learned how to paper mache using newspaper and glue. I enjoyed painting the first layer of the base colour of the balloon. I found it hard at first to paper mache because the newspaper would sometimes slip off the balloon.
