Novel work 2023!

Kia Ora! It’s Isabella here and i’m here to show you the novel work we’ve been working on! We all got put into groups and had different activities to complete. My group’s novel is called Bow Down Shadrach and it’s about a horse named Shadrach that does the opposite of what he’s told. He is a very old horse that couldn’t really walk. He got sent off to a dog food factory to be made into dog food! The characters in the novel are Hannah, Sophie, Jo, Mikey, Sky and Shadrach. Shadrach is very important to Hannah and when Hannah’s mum, Sophie, mentioned getting a new pony Hannah was so sad!

In this story I liked how Hannah, Mikey and Sky were brave enough to go on a big adventure when they were less than 11 years old! They even had to secretly jump on the back of a truck to get to Nelson! The reason they went off on that adventure was because Sophie and Jo had sent Shadrach off to a dog food factory, they also lied saying he was going to a beautiful stable that would take care of him!

My Favorite character is Hannah because she is so brave and determined to get Shadrach back.

Hope you enjoyed my blog! Check out my reading slideshow I have been working on!

Summer learning journey!

Kia Ora! How are you doing? Today i’m going to show you my summer learning journey stuff I have completed so far. I did some art with my friend Eliza, here it is!

It was really fun to colour this picture but it was quite hard to colour the snow on the cats!

This is a picture of rainbow candles we did together as well! We did a mountain at night also, that’s the last one we did, here it is!

The summer learning journey is really fun so far! I’m going to be doing lots more blogs about it!

Have you ever done the summer learning journey?

have a wonderful day or night! Bye!

Parihaka Headbands

Kia Ora! How are you doing? I am going to tell you about Thursday, the 3rd of November we made head bands. We got our own piece of cardboard paper to draw our own patterns on. Once we finished our pattern we had to measure our heads and draw a line to where we needed to cut. After we were finished with cutting our headband we taped the two sides together using double sided tape. Then we taped either 1 or 3 white feathers to the inside of our headband and then we were done! There were many different patterns from all over the syndicate. My pattern looked a bit like this!

thanks for reading my blog post.

Cya next week! BYE!!!

Black Ferns

Kia Ora my name is Isabella. I’m here to talk about the black ferns. A person in our class has a sister named Sylvia Brunt, she is only eighteen and one of the youngest women playing for the Black Ferns. In class we wrote some letters on our chrome books to practice for writing it down on a piece of paper to send as a letter. Their next game is tomorrow! The black ferns are playing rugby at the North land events center for the first quarter finals. I hope they have a fun time at their next game. I learnt that New Zealand beat Wales by 44 points on their game in the North land events center. We had a whole box of cool things sent to Waikowhai school by the Black Ferns. The black ferns are at the finals because they bet other countries and teams.

Here is a link to my letter.

And here is a link to the official site

See you next time!

Marvelous Museum Memories

Kia Ora! My name is Isabella and on Tuesday 18th of October 2022 Te Waka Ako went to the Auckland Museum. We went in groups of four with one adult in every group. My favorite exhibit was Weird and Wonderful because we were able to make one of our own unique butterflies on a screen and then it floated up onto another bigger screen in front of us. We went to learn more about the museum and other things. We arrived there by bus and the bus ride was really fun! I got to sit at the back of the bus on the way back to school. Have a look at my slideshow below!

Thank you for reading!

Have you been to the museum before?

Weather Balloon

METHOD:

  1. Put a cloth onto the surface your working on
  2. Mix up a batch of white glue and water together
  3. Blow up a balloon and tie at the top
  4. Start ripping small pieces of newspaper
  5. Dip the small piece of newspaper into the glue and layer by layer cover the balloon
  6. Leave it to dry overnight
  7. Once you have completed 5 layers of newspaper start ripping small pieces of white paper
  8. Dip the white paper into the glue and cover the balloon with it 1-2 times
  9. Leave it to dry overnight again
  10. Cover the balloon with a layer of white paper.
  11. Leave the balloon to dry
  12. Then choose a color of your choice and cover the balloon with it
  13. Leave it to dry
  14. Add a second layer of the same colour to your balloon
  15. Leave it to dry
  16. Start painting your details on. One colour at a time.
  17. Leave it to dry
  18. Decorate it with your choice!
  19. Once you’ve done that you can pop the balloon
  20. Finally you can hang it up.

I learned how to paper mache using newspaper and glue. I enjoyed painting the first layer of the base colour of the balloon. I found it hard at first to paper mache because the newspaper would sometimes slip off the balloon.

Have you ever done a paper mache before? How did it go? Was it hard for you?

Thank you for reading my blogpost. Arrivederci!

Throughout this week, we had three pictures to choose from. On Monday we had to write nouns so we could write 4 adjectives about the nouns. Once we had finished writing both the nouns and adjectives, we were allowed to write a little story about the pictures we chose. On Thursday, we wrote a little bit more about our picture, then we wrote a whole story also describing our picture. We had to write while thinking the picture was moving with our imagination to to make the story more realistic and interesting for the teachers and parents to read. Then we had to highlight the nouns, adjectives and the four scenes. After we finished, we got to edit the whole thing to make it look interesting. I wrote about a little girl named Ophelia. In the story Ophelia was swinging almost above the clouds. Ophelia was not scared but very joyful. she was wearing a red beanie, a blue jacket and a red and brown skirt. She also had blonde hair. the swing is a peachy brown colour, the chain is grey. this is my story.
